Google Search Console Chapter 1: What Is Google Search Console

How to verify your site for Google Search Console?

Hey there! this is Daimary John and in this post, How to verify site in Google Search Console. Here you will learn how to add a site and also how to verify it, so that you can start using Search Console itself.

But before that, make sure you own a website or a blog without a SUBDOMAIN. Say a blog without the subdomain. Those kinds of blog won’t be accepted. Primarily because you cannot add any kind of HTML tags and you cannot really verify those kinds of sites.

So let’s first get to know how to add a site in Google Search Console?

Adding A Site

Adding a property
So first up, Click on “Add Property” to add you site. Once you click, you will then be asked to enter your Web Address. If you have an SSL Certificate installed, make sure you choose “https://”.

Now you will get a direct message asking you to verify your site. And you cannot start using search console until the verification has been made. So now let’s get to know how to verify site in Google Search Console?

Verifying your Site

You can verify using the method mentioned in the above image. Or, you can select the “Alternate Methods” if you are not sure where to begin.

I will be guiding you completely with the Alternate Methods. So as you can see in the image below. Here’s a total of 4 methods that we can use to verify our site. You can use any method you feel comfortable with.

To make the work easier, I will be guiding you with the “HTML tag”, simply because this is very much suited for beginners. Follow along:

Method 1: HTML Tag

.Select the HTML tag option and copy the code. It looks something like this:
<meta name=”google-site-verification” content=”KohF4srUen65G9UBx8JnXIcOsgv0c2FkwirtUT-WiNs” />

Now you will have to visit your site and just paste the code. This can be done in the Theme Editor section which we have in our WordPress blog.

Here’s an example of the Editor.

HTML tag Google Search Console

So the steps are:
1. Visit your Theme’s Editor section
2. Click on “Theme Header” on the right hand side. It’s under the section “Theme Files”.
3. Now paste the code between the <HEAD> Tag. That is between <head> and </head> .
4. After doing this, make sure to click on “Update File” on your editor.

Here is how it should look:

<meta name=“google-site-verification” content=”KohF4srUen65G9UBx8JnXIcOsgv0c2FkwirtUT-WiNs” />
<title> Ordinary Office </title>

Now head back to Google Search Console and just click on “Verify”. Remember! If you use this method. Make sure not to remove this code even after verification.

Method 2: Google Analytics

Google Analytics
You can directly “Add” and or “link” your Google Analytics account to make your verification even easier. In my case, i used my Analytics account and the process took just around a minute. And i would recommend you to do the same.
